Patrols in Vantalux were something else. Although the Wharf would always be his favourite, Gaius couldn't deny that the big city had charm. Bigger, with more variety. More things to experience, different people to meet. Not all of that was wholly positive of course. The Wharf had a consistent quality, a familiar atmosphere and feel you could rely on. With Vantalux Gaius never quite knew what he'd get, sometimes he felt that even when visiting the same locale he'd get a difference experience based on what was going on. Of course all of that could be ascribed to his own biases, after all the Wharf was his hometown and he made no secret of the fact that it was his favourite.
Still, patrolling the streets of the capital was a welcome change from time to time. Of course, the patrol itself was rather dull as those things tended to be. Gaius sighed as he resigned himself to what would undoubtedly be a boring day. Sometimes he'd get lucky and he'd run into a criminal or better yet a crime in progress. Most of the time however, he'd find himself filling up with disappointment as he peered down empty alley after empty alley, confirming that everything was indeed, regrettably in order. The only thing that kept him going at that point was the thought that his shift would be over sooner or later and he'd be able to hit the nearest bar... and perhaps pick up a fine lady while he was at it. They were simple pleasures, but Gaius saw no issue with it. Pleasure ought to be simple, everything else was complicated enough to make up for that. Gaius, as a result of that plan, kept his patrol route rather tightly concentrated around some of Vantalux's most frequented and well known bars. Of course, it didn't just make sense in terms of pleasure, even when looked at from the business perspective his route made sense. After all, where was an Enforcer more likely to be needed than close to a drinking establishment, where altercations were part of a daily route almost. At least, that was the rationale Gaius would offer up if pressed on the issue, the truth was he didn't really think alcohol made that much of a difference, people got robbed, stabbed or worse all the time all across the city. Besides, if he were to intervene in a crime, he'd much rather it be an assault on the street than a drunk brawl. The latter tended to be a bit more restrictive and it hardly felt like a fight to him. Sure, it was nice to brake up the gaggle of drunk combatants and have the onlookers part before the Enforcer as he approached, but the whole thing tended to offer little more than a short power trip to him, especially if he was actually itching for a fight.
As it happened, Gaius was in fact itching for a fight, but he sincerely doubted he'd find one, especially since his shift was minutes away from ending. The sky was well and truly dark now, just on the cusp of it being proper nighttime. Gaius adjusted his gear for a moment as he prepared to make his final round of the day. Though he always liked to dress flashy, Vantalux felt even more inviting than the Wharf for him to show off the more noteworthy pieces of his wardrobe. Though the black Enforcer uniform was unmistakable and clear to see for everyone who took a glance at him, Gaius's shoulders and a good part of his chest were covered by silver armor, as was a good part of his legs. It offered no real protection, but he did not wear it for that to begin with. It was eye catching and he felt it evoked a bit more respect from commoners, maybe even more than his uniform. His favourite accessory to the uniform was his sash however, slung over his body, crossing his torso from right hip to left shoulder. It was bright orange in colour with light gold embroidery, featuring traditional Wharf imagery, his family's heraldry and his own personal symbol, a simplistic rendition of a hawk. Unless one was looking at it from up close, those details would be practically unnoticeable, but the aggressive colour of the sash alone was enough to draw in anyone's eye.
Gaius made a turn into a somewhat narrow alleyway. Once he emerged from it his patrol would be over and he'd be standing in front of one of Vantalux's biggest bars.
